Effective January, 2000
A prospective member is welcome to a free 3-month trial membership. The prospect is invited to chapter meetings and social activities during that period, but of course must pay any fees that regular members pay (e.g. social dinner cost). The prospect will not have personal access to the chapter facility, will not have voting rights, and cannot hold any office, but can volunteer to serve as a non-voting member of a committee. The prospect need not be an EAA member to enjoy the trial membership.
We no longer offer an associate membership.
When a new member joins:
Their dues for the current year are $40 plus $5 initiation fee to cover a nametag.
Their membership through Dec 31 is free. They pay only the $5 initiation fee to cover a nametag. Their renewal will be effective Jan 1, for which they will pay $40 dues.
Hangar Guidelines
Chapter 1158 Members
(Including Renters) and Guests
These guidelines must be followed by all
members and guests
while in the hangar.
1.
Facility pass cards are to be used only by the owner of card.
2.
Members having access to the hangar are allowed to bring family and
guests into the hangar, but the member must always be present in the hangar when
any family member or guest is present.
3.
Any member entering the hangar, and any family member or guest, shall not
touch, move or use the personal property of a renter, including, but not limited
to, aircraft, projects and tools, without permission of said renter.
4.
Members agree that if they notice anything out of the ordinary on a
renter’s airplane, they will contact the facility manager or the owner of the
aircraft using the list of phone numbers here listed.
5.
The hangar door must be closed when no one is in the hangar (even during
short flights or short absences for other reasons)
6.
Members not renting a hangar spot are allowed to bring their aircraft
into the hangar for quick maintenance, with the condition that they must provide
(less than 30 minutes) access for any renter wishing to move their aircraft in
or out of the hangar. Non-renting members may contact the facility manager or a
renter for access to the hangar. Non-renters must also abide by renters
(contract) guidelines and document that they have read the renters agreement.
The hangar is not to be used for aircraft owned by non-members.
7.
Each member entering the hangar shall be responsible for damages
to any aircraft, project or personal property caused by their negligence and
that of their family or guests, and must immediately report such damage to the
facility manager, or if the facility manager is not available, to the
organization president or board member (using the list of phone numbers posted
at the Chapter Facility). The person notified may not be the member themselves.

Effective April, 1999
It is intended that hangar spots be rented to chapter members. However, if at a given time no member desires a spot in the hangar, that spot can be rented to a non-member with the following understanding: If and when a member should want to rent the spot the non-member will either have to join the chapter or vacate the spot.
No Interference Rule: All renters of an aircraft spot will be able to move their aircraft from their spot to the outside of the hangar, and back, without moving any other aircraft. This is in the interest of avoiding damage to aircraft, and of avoiding the large winter heat loss associated with moving one aircraft in and out to access another aircraft.
The EAA Chapter 1158 Monthly Rental Agreement, and the guidelines posted in the hangar, provide the detailed conditions of renting a hangar spot, and should be read by any member considering renting a spot (reading this policy page is not sufficient). For example, the Rental Agreement states that only the owner of an aircraft, or someone to whom he gives permission, can move that aircraft. When a member is considering renting a spot, it will be necessary to gather all the current aircraft owners (or representatives they have appointed) to physically try parking the additional aircraft to see if it will fit without violating the No Interference Rule.
Should the situation arise where a renter is causing serious problems, the Hangar Team of the Facility Committee will ask all renters for their input, and will then make a recommendation to the Board of Directors. Only the Board of Directors has the authority to force termination of a Rental Agreement, and such termination must follow the terms of the Rental Agreement.
Effective February, 2000
Bring aboard a "qualified" new member within a current year, and you, the "Sponsoring Member", do not pay dues the next year.
To participate, simply have the new member fill out a Chapter 1158 Membership Application, and have them fill in your name on the line "Sponsoring EAA 1158 Member". A printable application is available at http://eaa1158.org/joinappl.html, or contact Howard Kaney at membership@eaa1158.org to get a copy.
A new member becomes "qualified" once they have paid their dues, and once the board has reviewed their membership. The "paying their dues" part is just a bit complicated, in that we have a policy of not charging a new member current-year dues if they join between November 1st and December 31st. So, if your new member joins between January 1st and October 31st, they must pay the dues for that current year to be "qualified". If they join between November 1st and December 31st, they can become "qualified" once they have paid the next year's dues. The reason the board will review each case is that the spirit of this program is to gain truly new members. Convincing a member to rejoin after they left the chapter last year, for example, wouldn't qualify under this program. We don't foresee many cases where qualification wouldn't count, so please don't view this as a potential problem.
Effective November, 1998
Our chapter facility has three distinct areas:
Effective April, 1999:
Non-member partners of a member owner of an aircraft
in a rented hangar spot will have personal access to
the hangar. However, non-member friends who fly the
aircraft, but are not co-owners, will not have personal
access, but are of course allowed into the hangar when
accompanied by the renting member. Similarly, non-member
partners of a member owner of an aircraft project in a rented
project room will have personal access to the project room.
